The Bellrays

If music is food for the soul, then The BellRays are Thanksgiving. At a BellRays show they know how to cook. Lisa Kekaula and Bob Vennum dish up plate after plate, hot and ready to eat. Each song gives you flavors that both taste good going down and make you wonder what’s in it. Yes, the ingredients are important, blues, punk, rock, R&B…But even the best ingredients, used too much or too little, can ruin the experience and tire out the senses. The BellRays have been perfecting this recipe for years now and may not win awards but if you are in earshot no one leaves hungry. The BellRays give you not only what you crave, but what you need in every bite.

The Atom Age find their inspiration from the dust covered collections of unhinged 60’s punk and R&B, whose crazed energy was once misconceived as a better fit for your trashcan than for your turntable. While taking many of their cues from these primitive pilgrims of punk, The Atom Age still strive to lay down their own modernized take on the sound. The band’s new record, Hot Shame, was co-produced by Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves, and channels a wide range of influences from bands like The Sonics, Link Wray and the Murder City Devils.

Frankie & the Pool Boys – CD release party!

at Forbidden Island

1304 Lincoln Ave, Alameda, CA 94501

  • 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Frankie and the Pool Boys celebrate the release of their new album “Spin the Bottle” with a dance party at Forbidden Island Tiki Bar in Alameda. The band will play every song from the new 20 track CD, including the new single (yes, vinyl!) “Tan Line Fever.” Special guests joining the band include Dusty Watson (The Sonics, Dick Dale, Agent Orange) who also produced “Spin the Bottle” and, for the first time ever, the all instrumental band will have vocalists singing with them– Tony Bald from country band The Whateverglades and jazz chanteuse Kayla Fowler will recreate their performances from the album. Local legend Dave Seabury (The Rave Ups, The Chuckleberries and so many more) will join on harmonica. The night is also a bon voyage send-off for the band as they embark on a long summer tour taking them through Germany, Italy, the Northeast and SoCal here in the U.S. The Pool Boys are a headliner at the three day Surfer Joe Festival inLivorno Italy.

Frankie and the Pool Boys have a long association with Forbidden Island, this being their 15th show there, and celebrate the tiki bar with “Kill Devil Club”, a new song dedicated to Forbidden Island’s exclusive society (you have to taste every one of the 99+ rums in the house to join!)

Spin the Bottle is being released on Double Crown Records (Bellingham, WA) and the Tan Line Fever single is being released on Asbury Park, NJ’s Hi-Tide Recordings.

Frankie & the Pool Boys

at Forbidden Island

1304 Lincoln Ave.
Alameda, CA 94501

8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Frankie & the Pool Boys: surf band, party band. There’s five of them, they only gig when the drummer flies in from Japan, Italy or LA. They all play in other bands that you might have heard of (The Surf Coasters, The TomorrowMen, Meshugga Beach Party, Pollo Del Mar, The Gregors, Slacktone, The Boss Combo) if you are familiar with the tiny cult that is instro-mental surf music. They sure know about you– you dance to the surf beat, you dig tunes without all those dumb lyrics and you’re always prepared to have a good time.
